ESTABLISHED 1866
Perched in the heart of Semaphore, Fed Hotel has been part of South Australia’s coastal story since 1866, when it first opened its doors as the Jetty Hotel. Renamed the “Federal Hotel” in 1901 to mark Federation, the Fed Hotel has long been a place where locals gather, travellers rest, and memories are made.
In 2023, a new chapter began with the SA Pub Group’s acquisition of the freehold and the launch of a multi-million-dollar restoration. Our vision is simple, to honour the rich heritage of this iconic hotel while creating a vibrant, welcoming space for the community and visitors alike.
Beneath its 1920s façade of glazed columns, leadlight glass, and verandahs lies the original 19th-century structure, painstakingly preserved and celebrated in our renovations. From the original timber staircase to the intricate tiling, every heritage detail has been retained wherever possible, blending seamlessly with fresh contemporary spaces.
The theme of duality runs deep in the Fed Hotel’s identity, the old and the new, the historic and the modern, the land and the sea. It’s a place to celebrate milestones with family, enjoy a drink with friends, or welcome visitors to experience the character of Semaphore.
For travellers, Fed Hotel is a perfect base from which to explore the region’s coastline, local produce, and seaside charm, before returning to the comfort of the hotel, just as generations before have done.
With a deep respect for its history and an eye to the future, the “new” Fed Hotel will ensure that the heart of this grand old lady beats strongly for many years to come.
